CA Mohd

It's been a while since I've typed anything.

I am glad that the friday prayer khutbah had reminded people in Brunei about the dangers of smoking once again. I just wish more people would listen but just after prayers, people were still smoking after stepping out of the mosque. I guess it will take more time to educate the public. As long as they dont smoke where they are not supposed to.

Family friendly restaurant

I went out for dinner tonight. I didn't really feel up to eating at home, so we went to Mameh in Gadong across the Scout Building. I actually havent been there for a while because of poor service and smoke. I was quite surprised with the improvements. There are actually no-smoking signs inside the restaurant now *yeahhh* Unbelievable. For once I could sit on one of those long benches and not worry about unscrupulous smokers spoiling my meal.

Smokers had to smoke OUTSIDE!! I didnt think Mameh could do it but they did!!! It is a surprise because most of Mameh's customers are teenagers and 20-30 yr olds and of course a majority of them are smokers. I actually had to smile when a few cars passed by the smoking table - quite irritating. But I dont think they minded, too engrossed in the nicotine I guess.

There were more kids in the restaurant now with more children menus. I guess things are improving. Well done to the management of Mameh's. I hope this trend is the same in the other restaurants. I will definitely go back for more.

Intent

In my experience, smokers tend to get quite angry and defensive when someone mentions anti-smoking. I think there is an element of guilt and some degree of embarassment when you ask a smoker to stop smoking anywhere. If only they know how much damage they are causing to their lungs and their loved ones.

I intend to make this blog my experiences in dealing with smokers in Brunei. Including smoking in public places, teenage smoking and people breaking the law.. yes the law by smoking in government buildings. I dont intend to hurt anyones feelings but smokers may feel I am attacking them. Rest assured I am only thinking of the non-smokers who suffer.

First post

Hello all.. Welcome to my blog. I decided to start this blog to educate smokers regarding the dangers of smoking, especially to my beloved Bruneians. I am quite fed up with teenagers thinking that smoking is cool. I am also annoyed by the number of fathers who are constantly smoking in front of their own children.
